Oct. 3 Depart your hometown for overnight flight across the Atlantic. Enjoy in-flight entertainment and meal service.
Mon. Oct. 4 “Ancient Ireland” Arrive in Dublin. After completing customs and collecting your luggage Derek Warfield and your CIE Tour Driver/Guide will meet you. They will escort you to your coach to begin your journey. We will head north to the Boyne Valley Visitor Centre where we will learn about the underground burial sights. We will walk through a replica of the largest tumulus, Newgrange, before visiting one of the tombs. We will then return to Dublin and check into our hotel. You will have time to rest and relax or enjoy some free time exploring the city before dinner in our hotel. Ashling Hotel.
Tue. Oct. 5 “Patriotic Ireland and America “ This morning we will visit the Old Parliament Building, now the Bank of Ireland, where Derek will explain the history of a Rebel and Patriotic Dublin City in the Footsteps of Benjamin Franklin”. Our next visit will be Kilmainhan Gaol to learn about political prisoners especially from the 1916 Rising who were detained there because of their efforts to shape Ireland’s history. After our visit we will journey south through the scenic countryside to Wexford town. You will have some free time to stroll the narrow streets before meeting for dinner in your hotel. Wed. Oct. 6 “The Boys of Wexford” & “ The Great Hunger” this morning we take the short trip to Enniscorthy to visit the National 1798 Center, which offers a fascinating insight into the birth of modern democracy in Ireland. We continue to the town of new Ross to visit the Dunbrody Emigrant Ship. This is a replica of a sailing vessel built in 1845 to transport emigrants from Ireland to North America. We return to Wexford town with the remainder of the evening free for independent dining and exploring. Talbot Hotel
Thurs. Oct. 7 “A Nation of Emigrants” After breakfast this morning we head west via Waterford to the harbor town of Cobh. Here we will visit the Cobh Heritage Centre, which depicts the varied history of emigration over the past 150 years. This will be most interesting after coming from seeing the Dunbrody Ship. We then continue on to the colorful, quaint coastal town of Kinsale. You will have the remainder of the afternoon to explore this beautiful little town and it’s pubs. We will meet for dinner in our hotel. Trident Hotel
Fri. Oct. 8 “Myths and Legends” Depart Kinsale this morning and travel north to the town of Blarney, famous for it’s castle. You will have the opportunity to climb the steps and kiss the magical stone. This is also a great place for shopping at the Blarney Woolen Mills. We will continue on through the rugged countryside to the bustling town of Killarney. You will have the remainder of the afternoon to wander around before meeting for dinner in our hotel. After dinner meet up with Derek for a Concert with his Young Wolfe Tones. Killarney Plaza
Sat. Oct. 9 “Early Christian Ireland” Today we discover the beauties of the Dingle Peninsula. We’ll drive along the south shore of the peninsula for beautiful views of vistas of heathery mountains, sandy stretches of beach and rocky headlands. We will make frequent stops for photos. We will have some time in Dingle town for lunch and shopping before returning to Killarney. The remainder of the evening is free for independent dining and pub-crawling. Killarney Plaza
Sun. Oct. 10 “Gaelic Ireland’ We depart Killarney today and travel north to the Ferry across the Shannon. It’s then on to the majestic Cliffs of Moher, one of the country’s most magnificent rock formations that rise 700 feet above the Atlantic. We drive through the limestone region of the Burren to the 12th Century Monastery of Kilmacduagh. The most conspicuous feature of the well-preserved round tower is the lean of almost 50 cm. We continue on to the City of Tribes, Galway. We will meet in the hotel for dinner this evening. After dinner enjoy another Irish night of music & singing with Derek. Hotel Meyrick, Galway
Mon. Oct. 11 “ Romantic Ireland”’ This morning we drive west along the shores of Galway Bay and stop in the village of Spiddal, where Gaelic is still spoken. We head into the Connemara region, an unspoiled area with vast stretches of bogland and heather clad hills. We travel along the Leenane Valley and stop in the village of Cong, where the “Quiet Man” was filmed in 1952 with John Wayne & Maureen O’Hara. We’ll take a short walking tour and finish at the Quiet Man cottage. It’s back to Galway where tonight we will enjoy a sumptuous meal and wonderful entertainment at the beautifully restored 15th century Dunguaire Castle. Hotel Meyrick Tues. Oct. 12 “Island of Saints and Scholars” Leaving Galway today we head inland and visit the monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise, which was founded in 545 AD. by St. Ciaran. We then continue on back to Ireland’s capital city of Dublin. We will make a visit to the world famous Guinness Storehouse to see exhibits on how this world famous stout was first created. You will then have a chance to sample a perfect pint at the Gravity Bar overlooking Dublin City. We then check into our hotel with time to freshen up before dinner and music with Derek at the second oldest pub in Ireland, the Brazen Head over 800 years old. Ashling Hotel
Wed. Oct. 13 Sadly today our journey together has come to an end and we say good bye to Derek We will be transferred to the Dublin airport with plenty of time for last minute duty free shopping. Cost: $1,969.00 per person land only. Airfare is additional. We will be happy to help you with your arrangements. Single Supplement: A single room is available for an additional $475.00 Trip Cancellation Insurance: is $159.00 and it must be paid at time of deposit. Not Included: Tip to driver/guide & Insurance.
